At Inclusion College we are aware of the importance of British values. Students are taught about these holistically as part of any lesson but also as part of the Personal Development curriculum. We have a range of visitors who speak to the students about different British values and Prevent .
Staff will also work individually with students if there is a problem to try and resolve issues as they arise.
British Values are defined as the following:
A culture built upon freedom and equality, where everyone is aware of their rights and responsibilities.
The need for rules to make a happy, safe and secure environment to live and work.
Protection of your rights and the rights of others around you.
Understanding that we all don’t share the same beliefs and values. Respecting those values, ideas and beliefs of others whilst not imposing our own onto them.
At our College, the promotion of British Values — Democracy, the Rule of Law, Individual Liberty, Mutual Respect, and Tolerance of Different Faiths and Beliefs — is embedded throughout our curriculum and daily practice. These values sit at the heart of our ethos and underpin everything we do, supporting our learners to become confident, respectful, and responsible young people who contribute positively to society.
Our SEMH approach ensures that learners not only understand British Values in theory, but experience them in action through meaningful, real-life contexts across all curriculum areas.
In English, students explore democracy and individual liberty through discussion, debate, and self-expression. Texts are carefully selected to develop empathy, celebrate diversity, and promote respect for others. Learners are encouraged to voice opinions, listen to differing perspectives, and understand the power of language in shaping society.
In Maths, we promote fairness, equality, and logical thinking — reinforcing the rule of law and respect for order through problem-solving, reasoning, and collaborative learning. Students are encouraged to take responsibility for their learning, make independent choices, and understand the importance of honesty and accuracy.
Through Personal Development, students explore themes of citizenship, inclusion, equality, and community. They develop self-awareness, emotional regulation, and decision-making skills that promote individual liberty and mutual respect. Students also engage with current events and local initiatives to see how British Values are lived within their communities.
Within Careers Education, students explore their rights and responsibilities in the workplace, as well as the importance of respect, teamwork, and integrity. They learn how British Values shape professional behaviour and contribute to a positive, inclusive working environment.
By weaving British Values through every aspect of our curriculum, we prepare our learners to thrive as active, informed citizens who understand their role in a modern, diverse Britain.
