At Inclusion College, our Mathematics curriculum is designed to meet our students where they are and help them move forward with confidence, purpose, and success.
We offer a Blue Pathway which supports them in working towards either a GCSE Mathematics qualification or Functional Skills Maths (Levels 1 and 2), depending on individual readiness and progress. Where appropriate, learners may sit Entry Level Qualifications at level 1,2 or 3.
On entry to our setting and at the start of the academic year, our young people complete a baseline assessment, with ongoing assessments taking place throughout the term. This ensures that teaching is pitched at the right level, remaining ambitious yet accessible for everyone.
All lessons are delivered through a trauma-informed approach, where wellbeing sits at the heart of learning. Staff create safe, supportive environments that reduce anxiety and nurture self-belief, allowing our young people to engage positively with mathematical concepts and succeed in formal accredited learning.
Key areas of study include:
Number skills – including place value, operations, fractions, decimals, and percentages
Ratio, proportion, and measures
Algebra and problem-solving
Geometry – shape, space, and measurement
Statistics and data handling
Using and applying maths in everyday contexts
Our curriculum goes beyond the classroom, helping learners make clear links between mathematics and life beyond college. Through practical, real-life applications such as managing money, interpreting data, working with time and measurement, and understanding numeracy in the workplace – learners gain the essential skills and knowledge needed for independence, employment, and everyday life.
Ultimately, our aim is for every learner to develop mathematical fluency, resilience, and confidence, equipping them with the tools they need to succeed both academically and in the world beyond our setting.
