Inclusion EB8 - Supportive Employability Hub

When diversity is embraced, opportunity expands for everyone

What is Inclusion EB8?

Inclusion EB8 is a new service from Inclusion Education which offers the next steps towards employment for young people aged 18 and over.
The service, part of Inclusion College, will offer young people a tailored programme designed to support them into the workplace.

The programme will offer Employability qualifications, work skills, in-house work experience and supported work placement along with access to Job Coaches and mental health support to create the best possible stepping stones to work for our young people.

Inclusion EB8 will be based at our new space at Belvedere House in Basing View, Basingstoke. This is in the heart of the Basingstoke business community and EB8 is housed in an office building, sharing communal space with other companies and workers. The setting is key to creating the right environment which will support our students to enter ‘work mode’ as soon as they arrive.

The site is also close to the train station and public transport links with the expectation that young people will be able to travel independently – again supporting work readiness.

The office space will also be designed to support and showcase neurodiversity in the workplace – highlighting the small changes that can be made to ensure an inclusive and diverse workforce we want our students to become.

Further information on each aspect of the Inclusion EB8 programme are detailed below, yet as with every Inclusion service, the content and approach will be tailored to meet the needs of the individual young person in our care.

Employability

Each student will receive access to our Employability Skills programme with a tutor on site to teach and develop this programme with our young people. The course includes skills such as communication, teamwork, reliability, problem-solving, organisation and planning.

Our teaching modules will be supported and enhanced with access to our in-house work experience.

In-house Work Experience

Inclusion have developed a partnership with the Hygiene Bank – a charity which supplies hygiene and cleaning products, toiletries and sanitary supplies to families and individuals in need.

Inclusion EB8 will have a dedicated space where The Hygiene Bank can be run as a functioning business, giving our students hands on experience of real life tasks such as stock taking, customer relations and communications, meeting order demands, marketing and promotion, as well as core skills such as time-keeping, reliability, teamwork and leadership.

This is an amazing opportunity to develop these real life skills in a supported environment, building experience and confidence whilst also supporting a valuable cause.

Supported work placements

An integral part of the Inclusion EB8 programme is access to suitable supported work placements where young people will gain vital knowledge and experience of the world of work. These placements will be developed in consultation with the young person and our team – ensuring the best possible match for placement.

Our Team will support them throughout their placement – liaising with the placement company to ensure that all needs on both sides are being met.

This support could range from active communication, attending meetings, supporting understanding and access to work and in some cases supporting the young person on site at placement.

It will also involve working together before placement to establish any needs, support or accommodations that might be needed to ensure a successful placement.

Inclusion EB8 really does offer an exciting opportunity to develop and grow young people’s skills and knowledge an support them to find their pathway to employment.

See some photos below of what it looks like so far.

Young People in Hart

We are delighted to announce that we are also able to offer our supportive work experience to young people in the Hart district without an EHCP.

This programme is designed to support young people in the Hart area who are facing mental health challenges which are proving to be a barrier to their pathway to employment.

This service will work with young people to support their re-engagement and offering a supportive environment to find the right next steps for them.

The setting is key to creating the right environment which will support our students to enter ‘work mode’ assisting this to become a recognised and familiar space.

The office space will also be designed to support and showcase neurodiversity in the workplace – highlighting the small changes that can be made to ensure an inclusive and diverse workforce we want our students to become.

This opportunity was supported by government funding via the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and Hart District Council.
